Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on January 25, 1925, Barbara Carroll was a jazz pianist and vocalist. She began studying classical piano at the age of 8 but switched to jazz while in high school. She then enrolled at the New England Conservatory of Music but left after a year in order to pursue her musical career. In the late 1940s, she formed a trio with guitarist Chuck Wayne and bassist Clyde Lombardi, and they worked with Benny Goodman for a brief time.
