French rock singer Gérard Manset was born in 1945 in the wealthy Saint-Cloud
commune just outside the centre of Paris. After failing his high school studies
he was awarded a Concours Général, which is a prestigious academic competition
open to French high school students. The award helped Manset to win a place at
the famous École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The school
gave him a grounding in various aspects of art and in addition to developing his
skills as a musician he also became an accomplished photographer and painter.
