Graham Hamilton Lyle, born on March 11, 1944, in Bellshill, Scotland, began his
music career in the late 1950s, performing in local bands before teaming up with
Benny Gallagher. In 1968, the duo signed with Apple Records and wrote for
artists like Mary Hopkin. By 1970, they joined McGuinness Flint, where they
co-wrote hits like "When I'm Dead and Gone".
Leaving McGuinness Flint in 1972, Gallagher and Lyle launched their own
successful duo, releasing eight albums, including the hit *Breakaway* (1976),
which featured UK Top 10 singles “I Wanna Stay With You” and “Heart on My
