At the age of 20, after playing trombone in his hometown's municipal orchestra, Juan Tizol left to try his luck in the United States. For almost 10 years, he played on the desks of several dance bands, and at the end of the 20s, he was hired by Duke Ellington, with whom he collaborated for almost 15 years. As a member of the orchestra, he played the valve trombone, making a major contribution to enriching Duke's repertoire with his Latin-American identity and his own compositions. Caravan and Perdido, two Ellington hits that have become famous jazz standards, are signed by him. F...
