The Shanghai Restoration Project is an American-Chinese, Brooklyn-based
electronic music duo composed of producer Dave Liang and multimedia artist Sun
Yunfan, whose retro-futuristic sound combines traditional Chinese music with hip
hop, jazz, and electronica. Formed in New York City in 2006, they released their
self-titled debut that same year, which was heavily inspired by the 1930s
Shanghai jazz scene. “Introduction (1936),” one of the tracks in the album, was
featured on a Kenzo TV advertising campaign. They quickly followed up with
